SpanSet secutex - Innovative development secutex is the company that pioneered the development of protective coatings for use with textile lifting slings and lashings. Heinz Franke first developed the coating for lifting slings and protective tubes in 1979. This was also the birth of secutex. SpanSet secutex GmbH was founded in 1982 as, in this partner-ship, secutex was able to use SpanSet’s experience and international contacts which have helped the company to grow from strength to strength.

Progress through development

The versatility of secutex material has been demonstrated by many new product ideas. An important time in secutex development was in 1984 with the patent application for the armoured surface with a steel chip layer, the development of the secutex clip on sleeve and the patent application for the prong protection shoe for forklift trucks. 1987 saw the introduction of the PUR thin coating for Powerflex lifting slings, followed in 1988 by the development of secutex buffer pads.

In 1992, secutex came up with an unusual solution for a difficult job: with the help of a lifting beam (loading capacity 320 t) and some SpanSet lifting slings with clip on sleeves SC, it was possible to lift and tilt a 210t piece with textile lifting slings for the first time
Since 1995 Boris Franke has represented the second generation in the SpanSet secutex management. secutex’s competency has been proven again and again, including on some very unusual occasions. In 1996, for example, secutex supplied the complete lifting technique for the transport of a pirate ship to the new shopping centre CentrO in Oberhausen Neue Mitte. The 23m ship, weighing 18 tonnes, a rebuild of a three mast ship of the 18th century, was lifted safely from crane to crane up to the point of destination without any damage. New ideas are directly converted into new products leading to secutex protective sleeves for wire ropes and chains being introduced in 1996/97

Extreme cut-resistance secutex coated protective sleeves and lifting slings are very flexible, to form around the sharp edges of the load. The extreme structural resistance of secutex material prevents the lifting sling from being cut.

Supreme bonding of the secutex coating onto the webbing hose
The secret of secutex protective sleeves is the excellent bonding of the secutex coating. The coating enters deep into the extra strong fabric, creating a bond which gives a longer service life and optimum performance.
Clip on sleeve (SC): the flexible option
The secutex clip on sleeve (SC) is quickly fitted due to the mounting slot on the back. The clip on sleeve is useful mainly in such situations where roundslings are used alternatively with or without protective sleeves.
IMPORTANT: The clip on sleeve enables easy handling and a short set-up time, cutting operating costs.
Cut resistance
The secutex clip on sleeve (SC) protects both the textile lifting accessories and the load. The clip on sleeve moulds itself around the load, increasing the radius in the critical edges, so that the lifting forces are evenly distributed over a wide area. The extreme structural resistance of secutex material prevents cuts occurring in the clip on sleeve.

Double safety due to a two-sided coating
The two-sided secutex coating of the SF-2 protective sleeve protects the lifting sling all around and therefore offers double safety. You can use both sides of the protective tube and thus prevent dangerous mistakes.
In any situation the SF-2 is always correctly positioned. Due to this, turning the protective sleeve is no longer necessary.
SF-2: Just lift and tilt
By using secutex protective sleeves with SpanSet lifting slings, heavy loads with cutting edges can easily be lifted and tilted without incurring costs for special equipment.
Now the easiest solution:
The SpanSet lifting sling with the secutex protective sleeve is hung in the crane-hook and adjusted to the load. During lifting, the lifting sling will move in the protective sleeve. The load can then be tilted up to 90° without any problem. If you deposit the load in the same way to the other side, you will be able to turn the load by 180°.

Coated slings with permanent coating: Powerflex, secuflex and secutex S2
Powerflex - Highest abrasion-resistance
This sling can be used on rough surfaces, because of its Powerflex coating which has an extreme abrasion and tear-resistance. An additional advantage of the coating is the tamper-proof seal which prevents the penetration of dirt and foreign particles.
Secuflex - cut-resistance plus wear resistance
Two different coat-ings give a combination of the advantages: Polyurethane on the working side offers good cut-resistance, and the Powerflex coating on the back prevents abrasion.

Deep bonding through all layers

A different way of launching an 18t three masted ship.

The shopping centre CentrO, Neue Mitte Oberhausen, had a special attraction on its opening day: in a spectacular action, we had to place the original rebuild of a pirate ship into the leisure park’s lagoon.
In co-operation with the experts at SpanSet secutex and factory representatives from Evers GmbH, we developed a lifting system consisting of special lifting beams, roundslings, Powerflex coated lifting slings and secutex protective sleeves.
As the ship was supposed to be transported by a helicopter, the carrying construction had to be as light as possible. This target was reached in the best way: for a a carrying capacity of 40,000 kg, the lifting system only weighed 390 kg. We used four SpanSet PowerPlus lifting slings with a carrying capacity of 5,000 kg each. The one layer lifting slings had an especially wide webbing and therefore guaranteed an ideal surface pressure.
In order to prevent damaging the lifting slings or the ship sides, the lifting slings were bonded with the flexible Powerflex coating.
The original plan to transport the ship with the helicopter had to be given up because of the down-draught the rotor blades caused. The ship was therefore transported by launching it from one crane to the other over streets and canals to its final destination.

Sharp edges, rough surfaces - no problem!
In our firm, we have been using SpanSet lifting slings for 25 years to lift or load flooring tiles or other readymade concrete parts. In our initial years, the abrasion of the lifting slings was considerable because the strain on the slings is extremely high.
The abrasion was so high that the slings had to be replaced after three weeks of use. As a result of meetings with SpanSet secutex technicans, we were able to make improvements in the lifting technique step by step, leading to lower costs, e.g. the use of lifting beams.
The most important improvement was made by using secuflex lifting slings. The secutex coating on the working side protects the lifting slings very well from the sharp and rough edges of the readymade concrete parts.
Problems caused by abrasion were extremely reduced by using secuflex lifting slings, so that purchase costs for lifting accessories were halved from EUR 40,000 to EUR 20,000 per year.

The best choice for safe transporting
We have been loading coils for many years using secutex lifting slings S2 with two-side secutex coating.
The lifting slings have a carrying capacity of 1.5 t. in straight lift so that we are able to lift pallets up to 4.2 t. when using two lifting slings.
In the past, we always had cuts in the wooden pallets due to the wire ropes we used. Once cut, the pallet usually broke and this meant quite a big risk of injury. Since we’ve been using secutex lifting slings, we have not had any damage. But the main advantage of the secutex lifting slings is that damage to the coils is prevented. Our coils should not be scratched or damaged because our customers expect the highest quality from us. In addition to this, secutex lifting slings offer simple and safe handling because they are light-weight and flexible and, due to the two-side coating, they are always correctly positioned.
To sum up, coated lifting slings are the best choice for us. Due to the ”cork screw” effect, we had to replace the wire ropes after a few weeks of use. The coated lifting slings have a service life of approximately 6 months, and since we have been using the secutex slings, we have not had any accidents due to wire ropes breakages.

The SK-B edge protector can be optimally adapted to any load geometry thanks to its hinge. It is optionally available with magnets, allowing it to keep its position on a magnetic load. The mounting slit allows the edge protector to be quickly pushed onto the lifting strap and placed against the edge. Even when securing the load, the lashing material must be protected against the „sharp edge“. High-value loads may not be damaged by lashing chains or ropes. The SK-BE secutex simple edge protector has a low dead-weight and is easy to handle thanks to the flexible textile reinforcement.
It is simply pushed onto the lashing material via the full-length opening on the reverse side and is thereby impossible to lose.
Important note: the secutex simple edge protector SK-BE is not suitable for prolonged use.

For particularly heavy loads, normal secutex protective sleeves can only be used for larger edge radii since the heavy load round slings under a load are up to 80 mm thick. According to the technical definition, this creates a „sharp edge“. Both the load-bearing round slings as well as the protective sleeve are destroyed by the forces which occur here. The secuwave edge protector increases the load‘s edge radius. The wave profile helps the edge protector adapt to the load. The cast-in perforated sheet then permanently keeps the shape. The additional secutex protective sleeve reliably prevents the edge protector from moving through the heave load round sling. Possible applications: bridge elements, machinery, gear segments etc.

The SK-D edge protector optimally adapts to any load geometry. The mounting slit allows the edge protector to be quickly pushed onto the cable and placed against the edge. The cable slides through the secutex clip and remains in the lifting strap even if it is knocked off.

Even when securing the load, the cable must be protected against the „sharp edge“. High-value loads may not be damaged by the cable. The secutex SK-DE simple edge protector is simply placed onto the cable via the slit on the reverse side, making it impossible to lose.
The edge protector is light and flexible. Due to the low dead-weight and flexible textile reinforcement, the edge protector can be attached easily and quickly to the load.

When lifting machinery components, there are always edges and surfaces which are insufficiently protected by regular edge protectors and protective sleeves. Textile load lifting accessories cannot always be used as the cables or chains being used press against the load with extreme pressure. Damage to the often expensive and highly-machined components can often not be avoided, and the edges must be re-worked at great cost.
The secuPad is DIN A4 size and can easily be placed at critical locations by hand. It consists of multiple textile layers joined together on every size and adapts flexibly to even difficult contours.
The surface is coated in Powerflex and protected against abrasion and the penetration of shavings and lubricants.

Every secutex protective sleeve or lifting sling (SX or S2) can be supplied with surface grinding.
You only have to add an ”S” to the article number of the ordered secutex sleeve or sling. (”S” means surface-grinding).
